John 3:16 is THE Christmas verse. It’s not the one we typically read at Christmas but it is the quintessential message of Christmas. “God so loved the world that he GAVE his only Son…” In one giant power move, the God of the universe shows us what love looks like - giving. …and it’s a giving that costs something. It costs everything. Then Jesus shows up and he, too, shows us what love looks like - giving. …and his giving cost everything too! While he gives his all on the cross he looks at the people he’s dying for and says, ‘Father forgive them. They don’t know what they are doing.” Giving even when the recipient doesn’t realize they even need the gift. That’s love. Lord, help me to love like that this Christmas season.
